Your Registration Is Due and You Need a Smog Check
Every two years, most California drivers hit the same wall: you can't renew your registration until you pass a smog check. If your vehicle is newer than 1999 or flagged by the DMV as needing a STAR-certified station, you can't just go anywhere. The station has to be STAR certified — and not every shop qualifies.

What STAR Certification Actually Means
California's Bureau of Automotive Repair runs the STAR program to identify smog stations that meet higher accuracy and performance standards. STAR stations are audited more closely and are the only ones authorized to test vehicles flagged as "high emitters" or directed by the DMV. If your registration renewal says you need a STAR station and you go to a non-STAR shop, that test won't count — even if you pass.

What If You Fail?
Failing a smog check doesn't mean you're stuck. A lot of drivers from Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Clayton come to us after failing elsewhere because we do smog repairs in addition to testing. Common reasons for failure include a faulty oxygen sensor, a bad catalytic converter, an EVAP system leak, or an illuminated check engine light. We can diagnose the problem (diagnostics start at $195) and repair it, then retest you on site.
Q: Can I get retested at Super Station after a repair?
Yes. If we do the repair, we retest the vehicle here. You don't need to go back to the DMV or find a different station. We handle the paperwork and report the result directly to the BAR.
